Traditions And The Christmas Season
Christmas traditions. I think everyone has them. Some have big traditions, some have small ones. I think the traditions we each make is what makes the Christmas season so special. I know for me as I look back on my childhood I don't remember the gifts I got, but I do remember what we did as a family.
My most favorite tradition that we did growing up actually happened on Christmas Eve. I grew up in Burley, ID which is only about 30 minutes from Pomerelle Ski Resort. My dad felt very strongly that because we lived so close to a ski hill we all needed to learn how to ski. So we did! That lead to every Christmas Eve we would get up and head to Farmer's Corner (the local gas station) for our super healthy breakfast of old fashioned donuts and chocolate licorice. We would then head up to the mountain and spend the day enjoying the fresh powder. After a long day of skiing my mom would always have some delicious, warm and homemade meal ready for us.
So many great memories were made on that ski hill. New friendships, meaningful talks and discussions among each other as the chair lift inched it's way up the mountain. That mountain brought a lot of bonding time and peace to my life.
Traditions don't have to be big, extravagant, or showy. All that really matters is that you find something that can bring you closer to friends and family. Afterall, that's really what the Christmas season is all about. Spending time with those you love!
