2017 Resolutions

Well, it's a new year! For a lot of us that means that in the past 3 days we have joined a gym and started some crazy diet. Have you ever found that you very rarely stick to those new year resolutions?

From a young age my parents taught me the importance of goal setting. I remember very well numerous accounts when my dad would randomly and casually say, "Brittany. What's your plan for the next month? What about the next year? What about the next 5 years?" I initially would feel immediate panic and stress because I didn't know. And the times I did know what my plan was I felt panic and stress thinking about the thought of not completing those goals. The valuable lesson I did learn as I have gotten older is that it's ok not to finish a goal! It's ok to fail. The important thing is that we have goals in mind, we work our hardest to complete them and then see where we stand. I have found that the biggest thing that happens in setting and completing goals is that it gives you a sense of worth and accomplishment. It helps you to set your eyes on something that otherwise might seem unattainable if you were to not set the goal in the 1st place.

I remember when my husband and I were 1st married. We were poor...dirt ass poor (sorry for the language:). Both of us were attending college and working measly part-time campus jobs just to get by and get through school. I remember feeling this HUGE sense of rush! Rush as in... I need to hurry and finish school so I can hurry and get a good job so that I can then hurry and buy a house and then I can hurry and have kids and then maybe slow down and enjoy life. Haha!!! Well, as you can probably guess things didn't go quite as planned. We had our 1st baby just as I was finishing school. My husband continued to go to school and work full-time so that I could be a stay-at-home mom. Long story short we had 3 adorable boys in 5 years, we moved 10 times in 10 years for school/work opportunities and looking back I wouldn't change any of it. We were still able to set goals along the way. Some of which we accomplished and some our path in life took us down a different avenue.

My point in all of this is as you reflect back on the past year and are looking at what you want to accomplish this year be realistic! If you are someone who accomplishes every goal you ever set the I applaud you! If things don't go as planned it's ok! Remember to look at all the beauty and love around us all. We all have things to be grateful for! So go forward in 2017 with a look of gratitude and optimism and it will be a great year!
