8.75 acres of Beautiful Snake River frontage property just two miles upstream from Glenns Ferry, Idaho. This lot would make a great home/cabin site, vineyard or continue using as pastureš
Value Of Hard Work
Growing up on a farm in a small Southern Idaho town I feel like I learned the value of hard work. When you grow up on a farm working really isn't a choice, but more of a family responsibility. I didn't always enjoy the work and would dream of the day when I would grow up and could move to a 'big" city and not do that type of work anymore. I remember my dad telling me repeatedly that someday I would appreciate it all because it was building character. Of course he was right! Now that I am living in a "big" city in good old suburbia Idaho I often wish my boys could have those same experiences that I did.
Whether you grew up on a farm or in a city there is opportunity to learn hard work just about anywhere. I have found myself getting creative in the opportunities I create for my boys so that they can learn the value of hard work. It may not be moving hand lines, or changing nozzles, or hoeing beets, but any type of work can create responsibility and build character. I have also found for myself and now watching my boys that when you are earning $$ for yourself you appreciate it so much more than if you are just given a handout.
I am proud of my boys because now they have created their own little business at the ripe ages of 12, 10, and 8. They have about 3 years of combined lawn mowing experience between the 3 of them and have now created a little lawn mowing business. Mostly the lawns they mow are for vacant Real Estate listings. Just like me, they don't always enjoy the work, but they keep at it and get the job done. They have had to learn to work together, organize their time and budget their $$.
What kind of jobs do your kids do? How do you instill the value of hard work in them? Are they natural entrepreneurs? I have friends whose kids have started window washing businesses, landscaping businesses, paper routes, shoe shining businesses, etc. If your kids have a business leave a comment so we can support them!
