Are the holidays a good time to buy or sell?

I get asked this question every year, and my answer is always the same: Yes, it can be a great time to sell.

You might wonder why the holiday season, with its busy schedules, family gatherings, and unpredictable weather, would be a good time to sell a home. There are actually several reasons why it could work in your favor:

  1. Less competition – Many sellers take their homes off the market or wait until spring to list. With fewer homes available, if yours is on the market and accessible, you’ll face less competition, which can make your listing stand out.

  2. Better deals for buyers – Some homes may have been on the market for a while, and with less competition, buyers may be more willing to negotiate. This can give buyers an opportunity to get a great deal, and you might be able to close for a price you're happy with.

  3. Out-of-town buyers – The holidays bring family together, and some visitors might be in town to see relatives or considering a move to the area. If they're looking for a home, your listing could be exactly what they need.

  4. Holiday charm – Homes decorated for the holidays often feel cozier and more inviting. Buyers may be drawn to the festive atmosphere, helping them visualize the home as a place they can celebrate their own holidays.

  5. Serious buyers – Buyers during the holiday season are often more motivated. Whether they need to close before the end of the year for tax reasons or are under pressure due to a job change or relocation, they tend to be serious and ready to make a deal.

So, while it might seem like an unconventional time to sell, there are plenty of reasons why the holiday season can be a great opportunity for both sellers and buyers.
